The works shown here were painted in 2006 and 2007. The paintings have strong affinities with mid-20th century American painting; they draw upon developments both in Abstract Expressionism and Color Field Painting. In addition, there are affinities with early European modernism, especially the Russian Avant Garde.

The paintings all share vivid color and a sense of dynamism. Some of the paintings involve very deliberate composition and sharply defined edges; other paintings are generated more spontaneously and the brushwork is much looser.
 
The paintings are fairly large scale — most are 48” by 72” — and are done with acrylic on canvas.
